THE EDGE RETREAT

A secret garden with a hidden door to a vineyard. This is no ordinary accommodation!

Immerse yourself in this unique property overhanging a granite ridge amongst Bushland in The Chittering Valley. Only a 50 minute drive North East of Perth at the northern end of the Darling Scarp Ranges, there is a reason why this property is named ‘The Edge Retreat’.

A secluded haven yet a cheeky 5 minute walk to Stringybark Winery.

Simple Living

Set amongst a 380 acre working sheep farm, The Edge Retreat has been designed with ‘simple living’ in mind. This beautiful and thoughtfully designed retreat is kind to the environment and food for the soul.

Day dream as you soak in the rustic outdoor bath-house taking in the breathtaking scenery, before lighting the fire and gathering around the Campfire Pit called “The Circle of Truth”. You are forbidden to lie when you sit around The Circle of Truth…

YOUR ACCOMMODATION HOST

Denise developed an appreciation for nature early-on growing up on the farm, but also from her grandmother Barbara Schmidt , who was something of a guru when it came to native plants.

“I like a house to be a place I can retreat, it has to be ‘in tune’ with the surrounding landscape and look like it belongs. I like it to be small enough to be cozy but large enough to accommodate friends. I like loads of natural light to visibly connect with the changing seasons and I like the spaces to function practically.”

A Passion for Designing Houses

Denise has always been interested in houses, how they are built to overcome site conditions and what factors make us comfortable; so designing houses became Denise’s passion and now she specialises in Energy Efficient designs. These homes are a joy to live in and have proven to cost less to run and maintain.

This magic location where the lands drops away has always been known in Denise’s family as ‘The Edge of the World’.

“All of my designs reflect this simple Australian Style and ‘The Edge Retreat’ is one such example.”

The Edge Retreat took 18 months to build. It was about enjoying the process, creating a place that’s right for the site and the occupants, and one that exudes ‘great spirit’.

It was a journey Denise enjoyed immensely; it warms her heart to share the magic of ‘The Edge Retreat’ with other like-minded individuals.
